The Shop Oakland Campaign is the product of a collaboration between the City of Oakland and the Oakland Merchants Leadership Forum (OMLF) to encourage people to shop in Oakland. This campaign was launched in 1993 and has evolved over the years, with new websites, new slogans, and new products, such as the Passport coupon book. 

New in 2008/2009 - Oakland Grown
This year, the campaign encourages people to continue to Shop the World at Home in Oakland, and also to consciously support Oakland Grown businesses and artists — those unique locally-owned businesses and artists that have their roots in Oakland. Shopping Oakland Grown not only helps keep the character of Oakland, but also helps strengthen our economy, and preserve our environment. See the new features on the Shop Oakland website.

Look for the Campaign in Local Media!
Oakland Grown campaign includes several elements, including

• Re-usable Oakland Grown Shopping Bags - This year, thanks to Oakand Recycles, we are able to provide 100,000 re-usable bags to merchants to give away to shopper for free - a gift to you for shopping local in Oakland. Shopping Local - An International Movement!
Many cities throughout the U.S. and beyond are celebrating their local businesses through Local First and Shop Locally-Owned campaigns. To learn more about the ways that our Oakland Grown businesses impact our community, check out the OMLF website. Campaign Partners
We invite various small business and arts organizations to participate in our campaign. Those organizations that provide services and programs for Oakland retail businesses and artists are encouraged to get their clients listed on the Shop Oakland, and Oakland Unwrapped! websites. In exchange we ask that these organizations announce the campaign to their community through emails, website postings, and distributing literature at local events, where possible.

Together, this group of community partners can have a huge impact on our local economy, community, and environment, by encouraging and making it easy for people Shop Oakland, and especially Oakland Grown.
